DESCRIPTION:In the second General Assembly of Global Reformbnb\, worldwide representatives of the hotel industry finalized a document that brought together the best practices in the field of digital distribution and committed to working together to eradicate aspects that of special concern to the sector\, such as the unfair terms that the large OTAs impose on the hotel sector. \nThe meeting also served to continue addressing the global situation regarding Short Term Rentals\, STR\, and its specific impact on each destination. In this sense\, an update of the “Case Study” was presented including the specific situation in 47 destinations around the world. \nFinally\, attendees made the commitment to remain attentive to new challenges and opportunities that the hotel industry is likely to face in the future at a global level\, such as\, for example\, in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

DESCRIPTION:The first Global Reformbnb General Assembly was held in Kyoto. The meeting was attended by representatives of hotel associations from 20 countries around the world\, with a strong presence of Asian countries. In addition\, associations from more than 35 destinations joined the meeting digitally. Altogether the event brought together more than 250 people to discuss key issues in tourism.\nAttendees updated the Global Reformbnb STR guidelines\, with the requirement that platform’s share information with governments\, including the identity of guests and landlords using their services. \nDigital distribution was included in the topics to be discussed by the members of the association\, who will produce a common position document on the subject that they will be able to share with the corresponding governments of their countries.

SUMMARY:Fourth Global Reformbnb Forum
DESCRIPTION:The fourth Global Reformbnb Forum was held in Paris in May 2022. On that occasion\, it was the first meeting with a stable situation following the health crisis\, and a detailed account was given of the situation worldwide\, as well as the consequences of the Pandema and the opening up of tourism\, which has led to an exponential growth in illegal accommodation. During the event\, the representatives of hotel associations\, as well as international academics\, have shared experiences\, studies and data to highlight the serious problems caused by the commercialization of illegal tourist accommodation in their destinations and the lack of specific regulation during the COVID-19 pandemic. \nAs a new challenge of the hotel industry\, attendees agreed to highlight the comparative grievance during the pandemic between hotel establishments and tourist flats that share uses with neighbors\, seriously affecting the coexistence with the environment. Thus\, for example\, while hotels were forced to close\, the short term rentals that share uses with neighbors had the opportunity to continue operating\, renting short term or converting them to conventional rentals on the long term market.\nFollowing with the task started in 2021\, discussions on digital distribution continued\, especially the problems arising from the abusive clauses applied by the OTAs that affect hotel establishments and\, the responsibilities of the main online platforms.

DESCRIPTION:In April 2019 we held ReformBnB Barcelona\, a second meeting where more than 30 hotel associations from all over the world took part. Since we were facing a global issue and not a case of individual cities\, it was a priority joining efforts to demand that the local authorities settled measures to face the negatives effects of the STR. That was the reason why in Barcelona\, the different workshops held during the summit culminated with the creation of a proposal of global guidelines to be assumed by the different authorities from all the cities around the world.

DESCRIPTION:In November 2018 we held ReformBnB NYC\, the first international summit of hotel associations grappling with the challenge of the short term rental industry. The main goal of the summit was to discuss on how to face all together the damages caused by the STR industry. During this summit\, the hotel associations sign a manifesto of 8 points: with a clear constructive will\, with a clear proposal to fit in a sustainable way the ‘real’ shared economy and to banish the professional operators who hide their illegal activity. All participating entities acknowledged the importance of the meeting and the need to continue working together to completely eradicate illegal STR\, with the organization of periodic rotating meetings in different cities around the world.
